On-Location Shooting

All of our free Paris stock footage was shot courtesy of Maarten Roos, who dedicated days to seeking out Paris’ most famous and beautiful spots. Lucky for Maarten, film crews of less than 10 people do not require permits from the Paris Film Office, so he was able to capture all of his shots with ease. Being June, it was quite hot in Paris, but the sunshine (and stunning sunsets!) allowed for some great footage.

Thanks to Maarten, we can now offer you free stock video clips of the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Trimphe, Sacre-Coeur, and more. Maarten is an independent filmmaker who has also shot some awesome footage for us in Lisbon and Amsterdam, with more to come.

Key Paris Landmarks

This batch of free Paris stock footage was all shot on a Sony EXI, and although this camera is quite old now when compared with Sony’s latest range of cameras, it still has the ability to create some stunning images in full HD resolution, at near broadcast quality. Sony EX1s use three ½-inch TrueHD sensors to produce HD footage as well as being known for their excellent control over depth of field and notable low-light capabilities.

Additionally, Maarten was sure to make good use of his wide-angled lens adapter, a 16×9 inc. EXII 0.6x. This lens was crucial in order for him to capture Paris’ large landmarks in their entirety. We know that those seeking stock clips often require wide shots of important landscapes or features in a city, so we were sure that your free stock footage of Notre Dame, the River Seine, and more all contained the views and angles you most likely wanted.

Subtle Color Grading

With the exception of a few minor adjustments, most of our clips consist of images straight out of the camera. It may be hard to believe that the above still frame is raw material with hardly any editing, but these free video clips are meant to show off Paris’ natural beauty all on their own.

Most importantly, we know that many users choose to add their own unique looks to stock clips in post-production, so our free footage contains minimal color correction to maintain the desired natural appearance.

Free Stock Footage – Why Videvo.net is a great educational resource

Category: Blog, Uncategorized, Videvo News

Now I disliked school as much as the next person (even though media was probably one of my better subjects), but one thing we’ve noticed since we launched Videvo almost a year ago, is the large number of people using the site as an educational resource. Stock footage is a fantastic tool for learning – it gives students the power to experiment and learn without the need of going and shooting the footage themselves (although I would recommend any fledging media student to learn to shoot as well as edit). For teachers, it’s a great timesaver — you can simply download clips from various sites to use as demonstration clips for editing, colour correcting, image stabilisation, track matte editing and so on. But wait! Isn’t that expensive after a while? You need a variety of clips, but those clips cost money, and it’s usually not cheap either; I doubt your students are going to help you out with that cost.

This is where Videvo.net comes into its own. It gives you the option to access more than 1200 video clips, all royalty free, and completely free.

What’s more, you can access these clips at the click of the button — there’s no complicated subscription plan, which means your students can access the site instantly and download the required clips. This can all be done anywhere with an internet connection, which makes it possible to set students homework based around editing and post-production, with a vast resource at their fingertips.

We’re committed to adding more clips every day, and as the stock library grows the more useful it will become for many people. The key challenge we face is getting the word out there that this kind of resource exists! So if you are a teacher (or anyone else for that matter) and you enjoy the site, be sure to tell your friends about us and our library of free stock footage! /Shameless plug.

And as always you can contact us with any comments and suggestions for the site. We write back to everyone who contacts us, so come and say hi.

Speak again soon,

Tom

How Sharing Could Revolutionize the Stock Footage Industry

Category: Blog, Videvo News

When we launched Videvo, we had lost a little bit of faith in stock footage websites.

Before we go on, let us just say that there are some fantastic sites out there, with some incredible stock footage shot by world-class videographers… but there is a lot of rubbish too, especially when you consider some of the prices. Mostly you get what you pay for, but this is not always the case. We have, and still do download stock video for our own projects, because it’s cheaper and easier to buy before going through the effort of shooting/creating it ourselves. But what about the solo video maker, the hobbyist, the enthusiast, who wants to add production value quickly and easily on a budget? Well there aren’t many options.

And so this is where the idea of Videvo was born; a website that offers completely free stock footage and motion graphics for anyone, with no complicated (and expensive) licenses. We already have over 4,000 free stock videos on the site, all in HD, and this number is growing rapidly.
One feature we’ve created is user accounts, where users can log in, upload their own stock footage clips, chat with other members through the forum, share ideas and more. This is important for a number of reasons, but the idea of sharing is a powerful one. The number of solo video makers who practice the art of film making for a hobby is growing at a staggering rate, largely due to the fact that high spec HD camcorders are now more accessible than ever. To add to this, we are now surrounded by online video content, with everything from video blogging, promo videos, product videos and so on. However, not everyone that creates this kind of video content is a professional. Perhaps they are good at operating a camera, but have no idea about creating an animated motion background for a simple title introduction. This is where the idea of sharing has unlimited benefits. It opens up opportunity for people with differing skill-sets to connect, and in by doing so enhance their own productions and other people’s. What you now have is a community of video makers with and extensive tool kit for creating great video content.

This is the long term vision for Videvo.net, and although it may take some time, we’re excited for what the future holds.

So if you’re visiting us for the first time, jump into our free stock footage library, have a browse, and if you feel like it then register for an account and upload one of your own clips to help others with their projects.

We hope you enjoy using the site, and feel free to send us feedback.

All the best,

The Videvo Team
